How do I book a tarot reading?

The easiest way to book a reading is to contact me using the form on this website. You can also text, email, or reach out on social media. I don't take walk-ins, but I can usually see a client within a few days of making contact. I share an office in downtown Bloomington, Indiana with my wife, and I need to work my tarot schedule around her bookings. In general, I have more flexibility for remote readings. For these, I use Zoom and share my screen so you can see the cards as they are revealed. I don't find much difference between in-person and online in the usefulness of the information revealed in the reading. An in-person reading has a certain intimacy that comes from physically being in the same room, but an online reading offers convenience (no parking hassles, etc.) and allows me to read for clients worldwide.

What happens during a tarot reading?

After we've settled on the time and location for the reading, either in person or online, we'll chat a bit to get to know each other. Some people come to the table with a question ready, and others need a little nudge to refine what they want to ask. After the question is defined, I'll shuffle my trusty Universal Waite deck (or, for spicy people, my equally trusty Thoth deck). Then, you'll cut the deck into a few piles to get your mojo in the mix. After that, we'll get into the reading itself, which is a process of revealing the cards, receiving their messages, and crafting a narrative to connect them. This story can serve to provide external validation for something you've been wrestling with internally, but it can also provide you with a point of view that you may not have been able to see. Usually, it does both of these things and more.

Do I need to believe in tarot?

Nope! Tarot simply provides information, and this information does not require belief. If it's useful, it's useful, and if it's not, that's okay. I'm skeptic of most paranormal or occult phenomena, but I've experienced things over the years that demonstrate that there's more to our experience on Earth than the literal. Many times I've found myself gesturing to the cards, saying 'See, truth is stranger than fiction. We could not have made this up!'

How do I get ready for a session?

That's up to you. You can jot down a few topics that you'd like more information about, simply show up to the session, or somewhere in between. The best thing you can do leading up to your session is to have an open mind, a willingness to have your experiences mirrored back to you in an unexpected way, and to cultivate a sense of adventure.

What kinds of questions can tarot answer?

Tarot is best suited to ask specific, but open-ended, questions. For example, your question might be 'should I leave my job?' As part of the discovery process, I might rephrase your question as 'what energies surround leaving your job?' This takes the question away from a simple yes or no answer to something more nuanced, and hopefully more helpful.
